Yes, the programme coordinators will be able to supervise and sign-off for attendance at scheduled events. These are approved by all participating Colleges and Institutions.

The Entrepreneurial Skills Pass (ESP) is an international qualification that certifies students participating in the Company Programme have had a real-life entrepreneurial experience. This exam, which is sat for at the end of the academic year, certifies that students have gained the necessary knowledge, skills and competences to start a business or be successfully employed. Students who pass this online exam can then add this qualification to their CV and use it to pursue further education, enter employment or to start their own business.

Although time consuming, the JAYE Company Programme and Start Up Programme offer an experience like no other. Our learning by doing approach is highly motivating for students and it develops the understanding and skills required to prepare young adults for the world of work. On top of enhancing and building upon their academic studies, these programmes also provide young people with a practical understanding of financial management, organisation, autonomy, innovation and many other competencies which are essential for professional success.

Our programmes give you a real life experience of how the business world works. Through hands-on workshops, meetings and competitions, you will explore the world of business and your own strengths and interests which will define your future career. Through this invaluable practical business training you will gain a competitive advantage over your peers who have not participated in a JAYE Entrepreneurship Programme. As a JAYE Alumni you will be ready to enter the world of work with the skills and awareness necessary to succeed in self-employment or as an employee, and with an extensive professional network which will provide you with exciting opportunities for years to come.

We are not going to lie to you, starting a business is not restful. You need to meet with your team and Business Mentor, work on every step of developing your business and meet the deadlines. Since this is a team effort, you should commit to work as hard as each other, as your team’s success is also dependent on your success. Once you understand that you will go far!

The total cost of the year is €35 which includes participation at all calendar scheduled events, refreshments (where relevant), and access to the Entrepreneurial Skills Pass exam and certificate (The ESP is only for Company Programme Participants only).

MENTOR FAQs (6)

Of course, we provide the necessary certification of your time spent as a JAYE mentor. However, company policies may differ and ultimately it will be your employer who will have to approve this certification. If your time is limited, you can meet with your team at your office to save you time which would otherwise be spent travelling (this also enables the students to gain an insight into a professional working environment). It is not essential that you meet your in person all the time, you can use video chats, emails, or online documents to communicate.

Fortunately, you do not need to be a business owner to have practical business knowledge and provide effective guidance. Whatever your specialisation is, we are sure that a JAYE team can benefit highly from your support.

Of course, if fact we encourage each mentor to draw on the support and insights of their network in mentoring their JAYE team and Mentors are welcome to invite their peers to join our Mentors team. The more the merrier! Anyone interested in becoming a JAYE Mentor can do so, as long as they are willing to build the entrepreneurial culture we cherish.

Periodic Mentors briefings are scheduled throughout the year to train mentors and to develop their skills. Training is offered on how to support with strategy, team management as well as idea generation and refinement skills. The team’s Link Teacher will also be on hand to support, and Link Teachers are encouraged to work together with mentors to assist each team. If you still have any questions, the JAYE team is just a phone call away!

In order to guide you through the process of leading your team along the path to success, you will be provided with all the necessary learning tools. You will receive an overview of the year to come, as well as a ‘Mentors Pack’ which contains useful tools for developing your team’s ideas and details about the overall programme and the judging events of the national competition.

As a Link Teacher, you are an Ambassador for JAYE, and responsible for raising its status and prestige within your educational institution and by extension the wider education system. You will aid with recruitment and the coordination of on-campus activities, provide guidance for students while they are at school and will be the first point of contact (in addition to the JAYE Staff) for the teams’ Mentors. You will also Monitor the progress of teams via their Mentors, communicate and track students’ submissions to meet deadlines, and promote teams within the educational institution.

As a Link Teacher, you are an Ambassador for JAYE, and responsible for raising its status and prestige within your educational institution and by extension the wider education system. You will aid with the recruitment of students for JAYE programmes and the coordination of on-campus activities, provide guidance for students while they are at school and will be the first point of contact for parents and JAYE Volunteers during these activities.

START UP PROGRAMME FAQs (5)

If you are registered at the University of Malta yes, you have the possibility to register for the JAYE Start Up programme by selecting the elective units EMA 3100 and EMA 3200, respectively for Semester 1 and Semester 2 of the programme. Each one of these elective modules carries 4 ECTS, and together they total 8 ECTS for the whole programme. If you study at Saint Martin’s Institute, the JAYE Start Up Programme can be taken as part of the Entrepreneurship module in the department of Business, Entrepreneurship and Finance. Other institutions have different assessment methodologies and it is important to discuss this with your registrar if you wish to attain formal credits for participating in the programme.

We highly value the contribution of our volunteers, without whom we could not deliver our programmes, and we offer volunteers a number of opportunities to develop their career paths. Depending on the role you choose, various levels of recognition are offered, so get in touch and we can discuss what roles best suit your interests.

We are pretty flexible with volunteering, but this depends on your role (Judge, Business Mentor, Speaker, event volunteer, office support etc.). We encourage our volunteers to choose the role that matches their schedules.

Fortunately for us, you don’t need to be a business owner to be helpful. Whatever your level of business knowledge you welcome to contribute to our mission of inspiring young minds. Volunteers offer vital support in organising and carrying out our events and workshops and helping out in the JAYE Office over the course of the year. Whatever role you choose we are sure that you JAYE volunteering experience will be highly rewarding.
