“Some time back in October 2015 I was invited to assume the voluntary role of a business advisor for one of the JAYE teams competing in the 2015-2016 Company Programme competition. I accepted willingly and I was entrusted with a team of 7 students from St. Aloysius College.
The programme was quite intensive and the team required constant support from my end. The company was named Starling. Starling produced a collection of vases from discarded wine bottles, targeting different market segments and a variety of occasions such as Mother’s day, Valentine’s Day and Easter.
A year of work was wrapped up on the day of the finals. An amazing evening is an understatement… my team ended up winning the competition (Company of the Year Award). Starling was also awarded the Best Implementation of Marketing & Sales Strategies Award […].
If the opportunity arises, I encourage you to take the challenge and mentor a team for the JAYE Company Programme competition. I also urge you to encourage your teenage children to participate in this programme to learn-by-doing.”
